The Swedish gambling regulator, Spelinspektionen, has imposed a fine on Kanon Gaming for breaches of duty of care.
The penalty comes after the company appealed the decision. The court ruled that the fine should remain significant due to both the seriousness of the responsible gambling shortcomings and the extended period during which they occurred.
Spelinspektionen, which oversees the Swedish gambling market, has issued several fines and bans this year. Most recently, it prohibited Bitx Operations and Ryker from serving Swedish players, as neither company possessed the required licence to operate in the country.
This development follows the regulator’s recent channelisation report, which revealed that licensed operators in Sweden covered just 85% of the market, while 15% was directed to unregulated gambling.
The Swedish Government has pledged to look into the issue, though its chosen approach has faced criticism from some observers.
