UKGC imposes fine of £375,000 on Football Pools Limited

The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has imposed a £375,000 fine on online gambling business Football Pools Limited after a Commission investigation found social responsibility and anti-money laundering breaches.

The breaches occurred between September 2022 and August 2023.

John Pearce, the Commission’s Director of Compliance, said:

This case demonstrates that the Licensee’s approach to profiling and monitoring anti-money laundering risks was insufficient, allowing high-risk customers to continue gambling until the required enhanced due diligence checks had been completed. In addition, the Licensee relied excessively on financial alerts, which, while preventing significant losses, meant that it failed to engage in a timely manner with some customers who were potentially experiencing other markers of gambling-related harm, such as time spent gambling and high spending. While it is acknowledged that the Licensee has made the necessary improvements following completion of the compliance assessment, the Commission will take further action if these standards are not met.
