Cambodian officials will launch combined inspections of properties where casinos are built in the country in order to check whether they are complying with the prohibition of online betting.
Yeth Vinel, Secretary General of the Cambodian Gambling Management Commission (CGMC), informed that the certificatory visit is aimed at determining whether gambling establishments are operating in compliance with licensed requirements, particularly checking whether the online host is functioning illegally on their premises.
The plan was discussed during the meeting held on October 5 between CGMC and Secretariat of the Commission for Combating Online Scams (CCOS). The meeting was attended by representatives from 16 regional and municipal jurisdictions engaged in casino activities as well as officials from labor departments, national police, and prosecutors in charge of inspections.
According to CGMC, casinos that are found guilty of providing online gambling services will be punished administratively and the commission will bring the case to the police.
Chhay Sinarith, Deputy Chairman of CCOS and head of its secretariat claimed that the government will strictly deal with places that are associated with online gambling crimes.
The inspection process will be conducted following Prime Minister Hun Manet’s decision to prohibit casino-based online gambling from starting in October.
The nationwide inspections will extend enforcement beyond those casinos, covering operations throughout Cambodia.
