Upon investigation, the ACMA have uncovered that some websites have been illegally offering online betting services, thus, they have advised Australian ISPs to block the access of such platforms to Australian residents as further breaches of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 have been detected.

Blocking in Australia of gambling websites is merely one of the methods that are being used to deter Australians from illegal gambling online. Since the ACMAs first call in November 2019, 1518 gambling and affiliate sites have been blocked, and more than 220 illegal operators have left the Australian market since the new rules were enforced in 2017.

However, in their recent release, the ACMA have made it clear that some gaming services which were proposed to look like very legitimate ones are actually extremely lacking in necessary customer protection measures. Australians who gamble on illicit websites risk losing their money and a wagering service’s license in Australia can be verified on the official register.
