The Swedish government may increase the GGR tax from 18% to 22%.
This was stated by the CEO of ATG bookmaker Hans Lord Skarplot, who previously asked permission to set different rates for horse racing operators, online casinos and bookmakers.
At a gambling seminar, Scarplot and Financial Markets Minister Niklas Weikman discussed the possibility of introducing a differentiated tax.
Weikman called the increase in rates from 18% to 22% “unprofitable”, because the illegal market has already taken 23% of Swedish players, luring them with bonuses and unfair play.
According to the Online Gambling Association (BOS), the tax increase weakens the legal market in Sweden and will strengthen the position of illegal operators.
