Betsson Group has revealed plans to open a new tech hub in Málaga, Spain, marking a key milestone in its global growth strategy.
The city was chosen after a comprehensive evaluation of several options, standing out for its strong tech ecosystem, international talent pool, and high quality of life.
The Málaga hub will enhance Betsson’s technological capacity, particularly in areas such as game development, native mobile applications, and artificial intelligence-core pillars of the company’s mission to offer cutting-edge player experiences.
Jesper Svensson, CEO of Betsson Operations, described Málaga as an ideal location for expansion, praising its vibrant environment and connectivity, which resemble the success factors of Betsson’s Malta base. He reaffirmed Betsson’s commitment to scaling its tech team as part of a wider growth agenda.
Hiring for the new office is already in progress, with roles open for backend and frontend developers, QA engineers, and AI/machine learning specialists. The main tech stack will include .NET for backend, and Kotlin and Swift for mobile app development. Betsson aims to recruit both local and international talent, benefiting from Spain’s ties to Latin America and favorable visa regulations.
This move aligns with Betsson’s strategic shift toward decentralised yet interconnected operations. The Málaga hub will play a vital role in linking global offices and enhancing cross-border collaboration.
The choice of Málaga also reflects a broader industry trend of investing in emerging European tech hubs that offer a blend of affordability and innovation. The city’s rapidly growing tech scene has attracted significant attention from sectors like gaming, fintech, and software development.
Betsson’s focus on employee satisfaction remains a cornerstone of its expansion, with its award-winning workplace culture expected to help draw top-tier talent to the new location.
With over 2,500 employees across 21 countries, Betsson’s expansion into Málaga further cements its reputation as a leading international employer in the digital gaming industry.
